Jaguar tops the US JD Power Survey for luxury cars in 2009

Jaguar has topped the Luxury list in the J.D. Power Survey 2009 in the U.S, with Land Rover also in the top 5.

This year’s J.D. Power survey in the UK saw Lexus winning out, but it’s a different story on the other side of the Pond, where Jaguar have come top of the crop for the Luxury Sector followed by Cadillac, with Lexus, Mercedes and Land Rover filling up the top five. So the Brits (well, Indians) have taken two of the top five slots in what is probably the most influential car ownership survey around.

There was disappointment for Audi which performed badly and Volvo and Infiniti didn’t fare much better. On the non-luxury front domestic brands fared best with Mercury topping the poll with just Smart coming in from outside the domestic market, although MINI sneaked in at sixth. Surprisingly, the big Japanese and Korean car makers all scored below the industry average.

J.D. notes that customer service improved significantly over 2008, which probably just goes to show what car dealers can do when they have to try. In 2008 most car dealers were just order takers, but the changing economic climate has made them work harder for a deal. Let’s hope they keep it up when things get back to normal.

But it’s great news for Jaguar Land Rover, coming just a few days after it was revelaed that JLR sales are very much on the up and that they’be actually managed an operating profit over the last quarter.

And things can only get better when the new XJ comes on stream in 2010.
