The KTM X-Bow is another of those four-wheeled motor bikes – just like the Ariel Atom. Open, exciting & thrilling in equal measure, it’s about the best way to have real fun on the roads (flies and weather permitting!).
KTM is an Austrian Motor Cycle manufacturer which has woken up to the possibilities of making a four-wheeled creation, and has been busy building and refining the X-Bow in collaboration with Dallara and Audi.
Featuring a 237bhp, 2.0 litre Audi TFSi unit – and coming in at a bit under £50,000 for the street version – its low weight (790kg) gives it supercar acceleration of around 3.7 second 0-60mph. There is even talk of a 380bhp version, which will put it up there with the Ariel Atom V8 we reported on recently. And it was voted Top Gear’s Sports Car of the Year in 2008.
So it is a cracking piece of kit, and we think there’s a new Top Gear piece coming up soon with the X-Bow. One of our team spotted someone looking suspiciously like the Stig out playing near us recently in an X-Bow.
But there are really limited numbers of the X-Bow being made. Originally planned as a run of just 500 a year, KTM has now upped that to 1,000 to cover the demand for the four existing versions (Street, Clubsport, Superlight and GT4 – and perhaps the planned 380bhp version). So what do you do if you want to enjoy the thrills of the X-Bow, but can’t get your hands on one? Easy, sign up for one of KTM’s X-Bow ‘Drive Orange’ Track Days.
KTM has arranged two Drive Orange track days in the UK this summer – one at Brands Hatch (on the GP Circuit) and the other at Silverstone (also on the GP Circuit). The Brands Hatch Day is on 24th June and costs £245, and the Silverstone Day takes place on the 14th July at £295, and both include one-to-one tuition from a professional race driver.
Sounds like a hoot – guess we’ll have to get the petty cash out! If you want to book, give them a call on +44 (0)1908 214 305
