The new Mercedes-AMG A 35, revealed at the Paris Motor Show, is now on sale in the UK with prices starting from £35,580. First customer cars spring 2019.
It’s five years since the Mercedes A 45 AMG arrived on sale in the UK, setting new standards for hot hatches with four-wheel drive, 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds and a price tag of £37,845.
We’re yet to see the arrival of the A 45 AMG in this new generation of the A-Class, but we have seen its new baby brother – the new AMG A 35 – at the Paris Motor Show, and it’s now on sale in the UK, offering a performance and price package very similar to that of the A 45 in 2013.
With 302bhp from its 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine the A 35 can get to 62mph in 4.7 seconds, putting that power through all four wheels via a 7G-DCT 7-speed auto ‘box and, officially, achieving 38.7mpg (it’ll be under 30mpg in the real world).
The headline price for the A 35 AMG is £35,580, and in the price you get Mercedes’ MBUX multimedia with voice activation, 7″ instrument and 7″ infotainment screens, Lane Keep, Speed Assist, 18″ AMG alloys, AMG suspension, AMG grille, AMG steering wheel, AMG brakes and exhaust, reversing camera, five drive modes, Keyless-Go and climate.
But the price will start to rise from competing with well-specced VW Golf Rs as soon as your finger hovers over the options list, and we’d be surprised if many A 35s end up listing at under £40k.
Adding the AMG Executive equipment option of 10.25″ infotainment screen, heated front seats, parking pack and mirror pack costs £1,395 on its own, but add AMG Premium equipment with its 10.25″ instrument screen, ambient lighting, illuminated door sills, keyless entry and mid-range sound and you’ll spend £2,395. Throw in the AMG Premium Plus with Burmester Sound, electric memory seats (in the front), Multibeam LEDs with adaptive high beam and Panoramic glass roof and that’ll be £3,895.
There’s more too, including Driving Assistance Package (£1,695), Advanced Navigation Package (£1,295), Advanced Connectivity Package (£495) and AMG Style Package (£2,295).
The new Mercedes-AMG A 35 is now on sale at Mercedes’ UK dealers, with first customer cars due in spring 2019.
