The revival of MG so far has been about delivering rather prosaic Chinese cars given a gloss of credibility with and MG badge. But if MG are to succeed they really need to use some of the heritage of MG to grab buyers attention.
Based on a regular MG3, the MG3 Trophy has been created in a short time frame to to highlight MG’s in-house capabilities in design and engineering.
Featuring the MG3’s 104bhp 1.5 litre engine tuned to deliver almost twice as much power – 240bhp and 191lb/ft of torque – the MG3 Trophy also gets a limited slip diff, adjustable front suspension, new anti-roll bar at the back, adjustable front splitter and an adjustable rear spoiler as well as body tweaks.
MG aren’t quoting any performance figures for the MG3 Trophy, but it’s obvious it will be a lot more lively and responsive the the standard MG3.
And the promise of a hot hatch from MG is an interesting development.
