MINI to offer 3D Printed accessories
MINI is turning to 3D printing to allow customers to design bespoke side scuttles, trims, illuminated door sills and LED door projectors for their car.
Individual customisation of new cars has become the buzz fo a lot of car makers, and an easy way to top up the asking price of a new car and improve margins. And MINI are now taking that to a new level with 3D Printed accessories.
So as well as being able to choose stuff like custom paint jobs and different alloys, MINI buyers can now design their very own bits and pieces to add to their car.
It won’t only be an option for new buyers, but existing MINI owners can design and have 3D printed accessories to add to their car. Fortunately, they can also easily be removed and changed when the time comes to sell the car on.
The initial 3D printed options – being rolled out across the UK and Europe in 2018 – include dashboard trim, LED puddle lights, illuminated sills and side indicator inlays.
The dashboard inserts and indicator inlays can be had in a choice of five colours and can include images, patterns and Cityscapes, and the illuminates sills can include graphics, a star constellation and even your won handwriting. The puddle lights can even project your own personalised text.
The accessories have been made easy to fit at home and easy to remove when you sell.
