New Audi A1 Black Edition (left) & A1 Contrast Edition
Audi has revealed the A1 Black Edition and A1 Contrast Edition plus a new 143PS 2.0-litre TDI engine option.
It was always obvious from the start when Audi launched the A1 that they intended to go the MINI route and offer as many options and limited editions as they could muster.
So the launch of the Audi A1 Black Edition and A1 Contrast Edition is not exactly a shock. And nor is a new 143PS 2.0-litre TDI engine option.
The Black Edition of the A1 is based on the S-Line spec and comes with either the 182bhp 1.4 litre TFSI petrol or the new 141bhp 2.0 litre TDI diesel.
The Black Edition – the high-end ‘Sporty’ option – costs an extra £1,00, but it does come with black grill, privacy glass, 18″ alloys, Xenons with LED Daytime lights, Climate and an Audi Sound upgrade to 180 watts.
The A1 Contrast Edition is the cheaper sport special edition A1, and gets based on Sport spec instead of S-Line, and you can have any engine except the 182bhp 1.4 litre TFSI petrol ( but including the new 141bhp 2.0 litre TDI diesel) and costs an extra £1,350 over a Sport spec A1.
For your extra wedge you’ll get a contrast colour on the roof line and aerodynamic bits of the body and a set of 17″ alloys in a bi-colour, five arm design. You can also spend a bit more and get a double-blade roof spoiler – also in contrast colour.
The new 141bhp 2.0 litre TDI diesel becomes the fifth engine option in the A1 range and can be had with Sport, S line, Contrast Edition and Black Edition specs. It gets common-rail fuel injection, and 236lb/ft of torque to go with its 141bhp. It can also manage 0-62mph in 8.2 seconds, average 68.9mpg and emits just 108g/km.
More choice from the A1, and a new engine that seems frugal, pokey and low-emitting.
