New Ford GT buyers getting unique ‘GT Order Kit’
Buyers of the new Ford GT – Ford’s new blue collar supercar – are getting a unique order kit from Ford to help them spec up their £450k cars to their own taste.
The new Ford GT, which effectively replaces the not terribly successful Ford GT and cashes-in on the Ford GT40’s heritage, has actually gone in to production. That means that the 250 buyers who will be actually getting a car this year will need to spec up their own GT 40 to their tastes, and Ford has a plan to make that happen.
Instead of being properly hands-on – which you might expect considering the cost of the GT – Ford are sending out a DIY kit to GT buyers so they can make their choices.
Instead of a feelgood, personalised service – like a Ferrari Atelier Studio – buyers of the Ford GT will instead get a box of bits to make a choice (above).
Each kit comes with miniature abstract pieces of the materials used in the interior of the GT, including carbon fibre, and swatches of each interior theme included with the same leather and Alcantara as the production car.
The kits also includes eight exterior colour samples complete with removable stripes to get the full effect, and tiny replica wheels with different coloured calipers.
According to Henry Ford III:
The Ford GT ordering kit is a critical piece in the purchase process.
This high-quality kit is a hands-on tool for Ford GT customers to enhance their ordering experience. Authentic colours, finishes and materials will provide an intimate, tactile way to discern the multitude of choices to configure their ideal supercar
Clearly, Ford has spared no expense. After all, when you’re spending £450,000* on a Ford – and having to pay £225,000 when you spec your car – you need to feel good.
And getting a little box of DIY samples must make Ford GT buyers feel so much more appreciated than having to suffer something like the Ferrari Atelier Service.
(*The Ford GT costs a basic $450,000, but once you look at the exchange rate and add in import duty and VAT, it seems likely it will be £450,00 for UK buyers)

Think you should get tid of the old articles at the end of the main article. Too old and many oredictions, like Jag coupe or Jag hatch never occured.
