New Jaguar E-Pace Barrel Roll – HOW did they do it?
The new Jaguar E-Pace was launched with a spectacular, record-breaking Barrel Roll at London’s ExCeL. This documentary tells you how it was done.
The new Jaguar E-Pace is a car which will probably change the fortunes of Jaguar, taking it from a maker of sports saloons with ‘Grace and Pace’ to a maker of Premium SUVs which are inspired by the ethos of the past. The first move in that direction came with the launch of the mid-size Jaguar F-Pace in 2015, with a spectacular loop the loop world record to launch Jaguar’s new car.
With that as the benchmark for Jaguar SUV launches, Jaguar had to come up with something even more impressive for the launch of the E-Pace. And that was a record-breaking Barrel Roll at its launch London’s ExCeL.
The stunt involved a 160 metre run-up and run-off, with a 15 metre Barrel Roll as the E-Pace left the ground and rotated 270 degrees, winning it an an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the Furthest Barrel Roll in a Production Vehicle.
But how difficult was it to achieve the stunt in a production car?
This behind the scenes video runs through the obstacles Jaguar, overseen by stunt specialists including Gary Powell and Terry Grant, encountered.
Terry Grant said:
As far as I am aware no production car has ever cleanly completed a bona-fide barrel roll and therefore it has always been an ambition of mine to perform one ever since I was a boy.
After driving the Jaguar F-PACE in the record-breaking loop-the-loop, it has been amazing to help launch the next chapter of the PACE family in an even more dramatic dynamic feat.
You probably won’t be doing a Barrel Roll if you buy a new E-Pace, but at least you know it’s a properly bolted together car after this outing.
