New Land Rover Defender being built at Selfridges
Land Rover are busy assembling a new Defender V8 at Selfridges in London as part of a new display in their menswear section.
Before you get too excited, this isn’t the all-new Land Rover Defender news we’re now, finally, expecting to see next year, but a new assembly of a Land Rover V8 Works at Selfridges in London.Selfridges has decided that what they really, really want for their revamped menswear department is an iconic Land Rover Defender to make their customers feel properly rugged, butch and masculine. But it’s a bit of a challenge.
With no easy way to get a full-sized Defender in to their first floor department, Land Rover has come to the rescue by taking apart a Defender V8 Works and reassembling it in situ.
Having hauled in the chassis by crane through a first floor window at the store, Land Rover’s bods are now busy putting it all back together to create a special Selfridges Land Rover Defender.
The Defender, which started life as a 2016 Defender 110 Pick Up, has been turned in to a 110 Soft Top with a bonnet finished in Sefridges Yellow, Bronze Green paint job, heritage folding windscreen, half height doors, chocolate leather with ivory cross stitching and Jaguar Land Rover’s new Classic Infotainment System.
JLR Classic Director Tim Hannig said:
Our skilled engineers and craftsmen can tailor vehicles to meet any request, from applying unique paintwork or interior trim to delivering far-reaching mechanical enhancements. The Selfridges Edition shows what can be achieved and we can’t wait to see it take pride of place in the famous department store.
The Selfridges Land Rover Defender will be revealed when the revamped Menswear Department opens on 29 October.
