New Land Rover Defender puts in a few final laps at the Nurburgring
The new Land Rover Defender is caught on video putting in a few final testing laps of the Nurburgring ahead of its public debut in a few weeks time.
It’s now just a few weeks away from the debut of the new Land Rover Defender, the gestation of which has now spanned almost a decade and missed the end of the original Defender production by getting on for four years. But having fobbed-off the motoring public with ‘it’s coming’ news for what seems like an age, Land Rover has been on a product offensive with the new Defender this year, and there really isn’t a huge amount we don’t know already as a result.
The new Defender will come in iterations from rugged to luxury, in 90, 110 and 130 sizes, in a variety of body styles and there will probably be performance versions too.
As a result it looks set to span a wide price range, although it will be the luxury and performance versions which will do most for Land Rover’s bottom line, although their success will depend on the rugged abilities of the utilitarian versions delivering.
But if the luxury and performance versions of the new Defender are going to be a success, then on-road manners are going to have to be in the same league as Land Rover’s main range, and that explains why Land Rover are busy running the new Defender around the Nurburgring.
We’ve seen the new Defender at the Nurburgring before – and it really didn’t look at home – but with just a few weeks to go before its debut Land Rover are still busy blatting the Defender round the ‘Ring.
Interestingly, the Defender follows a BMW X5 at one point in the video, and the X5 does look far more at home, as you’d expect.
The new Land Rover Defender will debut next month (September 2019).
