New Mercedes-Benz A-Class SALOON debut in Beijing this month
The saloon take on the new Mercedes A-Class will debut at the Beijing Motor Show this month as Mercedes adds another variant to its new A-Class range.
There was a time when the Mercedes A-Class was just a single model shopping car for ‘er indoors. But that’s changed. Massively. The last generation A-Class managed to spawn a swoopy four-door coupe CLA and a pseudo SUV GLA, but Mercedes are taking things further still with the new generation A-Class, with the next to arrive on production guise being the new A-Class Saloon.
Previewed by the Mercedes Concept A last year, the new A-Class saloon is really aimed at the USA and China (where it’s likely to spawn a LWB version to keep the local market happy), but it is expected to make it to the UK, although we can’t see it selling in big numbers.
The new A Class saloon also looks to be a chunk less appealing to look at than the really rather good-looking Concept A (below), as seen in the spy shot of the new Saloon at the Nurburgring (above), but it is set to offer everything the new A-Class does but in a more conventional package.
The A-Class variant onslaught from Mercedes will continue with a new GLA, a new CLA, a GLB and, perhaps, a GLA Coupe.
Don’t say Mercedes don’t offer choices.
