New Mercedes-Benz GLS goes on sale in the UK – costs from £69,100

The new Mercedes GLS SUV – the facelifted GL – goes on sale in the UK costing from £69,1– for the GLS 350d 4MATIC AMG Line to £102,330 for the GLS 63 AMG.

The 2016 Mercedes GLS – the renamed, and facelifted GL SUV – was revealed last week, and Mercedes has already got its act together with UK price and specification details.

Mercedes see the new GLS as a proper rival for the Range Rover, and it terms of price there’s not a lot to choose between them, with the entry-level GLS costing £69,100 (the Range Rover starts a bit higher at £75k) and topping out with the GLS 63 AMG at £102,330 – almost exactly the same price as the 5.0 litre supercharged Range Rover Autobiography.

Just three models are available in the UK –  GLS 350d 4MATIC AMG Line, the GLS 350d 4MATIC designo Line and the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4MATIC – with standard spec across the range including COMAND, AIRMATIC suspension with adaptive damping, LED lights, leather, memory seats, Harmon Kardon sound, panoramic roof, Climate, heated seats and the Keyless Go and Lane Tracking packages.

The designo Line model adds more luxury with quilted Nappa leather, heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel, four-zone Climate, Air Curve and the option of five different leather colours and a selection of trim from wood to aluminium.

Also on offer for the 350d models is an off-road package (to give it a chance against the Range Rover) which adds centre diff lock, low range ‘box and extra modes for the Dynamic Select system and additional height options for the air suspension.

The range-topping GLS 63 AMG comes the AMG 7G-Tronic gearbox with AMG Dynamic Select, a subtle AMG body kit with power domes on the bonnet, 21″ alloys and bigger tail pipes, with a titivated instrument panel, new steering wheel and a tweaked centre console.

The new Mercedes GLS is now available to order from Mercedes’ UK dealers, with first customer deliveries expected March 2016.
