New Mercedes GLA revealed in design sketch
The new Mercedes GLA, due to be revealed on Wednesday, is revealed ahead of the debut in a new design sketch from Mercedes showing the new GLA’s SUV credentials.
Despite the fact that the new Mercedes GLA – yest another ‘A-Class Mercedes – won’t get a public debut until the Geneva Motor Show in March 2020, Mercedes are planning an on-line reveal for this Wednesday, and they seem determined to tease its arrival to death. We had a tease for the new GLA just a few days ago telling us how clever the back seats are – 40:20:40 split and able to move fore and aft – but now Mercedes reckon it’s time to show us what the GLA actually looks like.
That reveal takes the form of a design sketch of the new GLA (above) which, although no doubt taking a bit of artistic license, does show us the new GLA is a bit more SUV than high-riding hatch like the current model.
For a start, it’s a chunk higher than the current GLA – around 4″ – which, coupled with a slightly shorter length (about half an inch), makes it look more squared and less a high-riding hatch.
But despite that small decrease in length, the wheelbase grows a chunk to deliver more room than the current model – and room for those new back seats to play – as well as more headroom in the front, a new MBUX and higher quality materials, just like other new A-Class models.
No doubt the first new GLAs to be revealed will be regular ICE models, but there will be plug-in hybrids and performance AMG 35 and 45 models to follow.
All will be revealed on Wednesday 11 December.
