New Mercedes X-Class ‘Premium’ Pick-up
The new Mercedes X-Class ‘Premium’ Pick-up is teased on video as the arrival of the posh pick-up for posing builders is planned for 18 July 2017.
Last year, Mercedes revealed the Concept X-Class Pick-up, leaving us in no doubt that they were really planning to deliver the first ‘Premium’ pick-up.Now, with a reveal planned for 18 July, Mercedes has delivered a video tease for the new X-Class (below), which actually doesn’t do much more than shout its potential to cope with rough terrain and look at home in the city.
But it seems highly unlikely the production X-Class will differ much from the Concept, which means a Nissan Navara with a Mercedes interior and makeover – and, no doubt, a much chunkier price tag.
The Concept delivered two versions, one for the rough stuff and one for the town stuff, and it seems likely the production model will offer the same too.
It looks like the regular engines will be straight out of the Nissan Navara, but there will be a range-topping offering boasting Mercedes’ 3.0 litre diesel too.
Having got away with diluting the brand by offering ‘Premium’ cars from the A-Class on up, it’s probably a very sensible move by Mercedes to tap in to a growing, and tax-efficient for buyers, market.
With more and more small business owners opting for a double-cab pickup to enjoy car-like goodies in a tax-efficient commercial vehicle, Mercedes could well be just the first of more Premium car makers to make the leap in to pick-ups.
The Mercedes X-Class Pick-up will be officially revealed on 18 July 2017.
