New Peugeot 208 and electric e-208 revealed
The new Peugeot 208 has been revealed ahead of a Geneva debut, and this time there’s an electric option too in the Peugeot e-208.
The new Peugeot 208 has been revealed as Peugeot give us a look at their second generation 208 supermini ahead of its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show. And it could well be a real star.We like the current 208 rather a lot, and this new 208 looks to raise the bar with new styling – which looks to have been influenced by the new 508 – a new platform and less weight, but undoubtedly the star offering is an electric Peugeot 208 – the Peugeot e-208.
The electric e-208 comes with a 134bhp electric motor and 50kWh battery to promise over 200 miles of real-world range and brisk performance of 8.5 seconds to 62mph.
Peugeot say the e-208 will charge to 80 per cent in 30 minutes on a rapid charger (although it’ll take nearly a day on a three-pin plug), and comes with an eight-year, 100,000 mile warranty for the battery. Which will help ease worries a bit.
Elsewhere, the new 208 will come with a familiar range of engines including the very good 1.2 litre three-pot in different states of tune, and just a single diesel option with the 1.5 litre diesel offering 99bhp. Oh, how times change.
Tech stuff include pre-heating from an App for the e-208, eight-speed auto option, adaptive cruise, new digital dashboards, autonomous parking, infotainment screens up to 10″ and more.
Prices for the new Peugeot 208 – and e-208 – are likely to be announced at Geneva, with the new 208 scheduled to go on sale after its public debut.
