Sharleen Spiteri gets ‘coached’ by Eddie Jordan
The BBC has released a new video trailer for the first series of Top Gear with Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc, due to start on 22 May.
Whether you buy-in to the tabloid headlines about the ‘new’ Top Gear or not, there’s no doubt the BBC are going to deliver a new series, and they’re doing what the Beeb has always done with Top Gear – teaser trailers on video to whet appetites. We’ve already seen Evans, LeBlanc, Supercars and the Reliant Robin outing to Blackpool in the first video trailer (there was a second we ignored as it was really just LeBlanc trying to get in to an Ariel Nomad), and this one gives more of a flavour of what appears to be a pretty diverse set of feature items.
There’s more of Blackpool and rain, a glorious Ferrari 250 GT TdF, the aforementioned Ariel Nomad in Morocco, a road trip with Seasick Steve, Sharleen Spiteri and Tinie Tempah, Chris Harris in the Aston Martin Vulcan – and even a Ford Mustang.
As for the lurid headlines about Evans being impossible to work with, LeBlanc and Evans at loggerheads, technical staff not up to the job and execs deserting the sinking ship, none of it really matter as the Beeb will deliver a new series of Top Gear.
It may be later than planned (Top Gear will now start on 22 May) and there may be fewer episodes too (it’s now just six), but it will arrive, and we should judge it on what’s delivered.
But there’s nothing in the latest trailer to make us think new Top Gear will be a waste of time. Although it may be just a bit obesessed with ‘celebrity’.
