New Toyota Auris TEASED for debut in Geneva with new 2.0 litre hybrid
A new Toyota Auris is teased ahead of a debut at the Geneva Motor Show, built on Toyota’s TNGA Platform and with a new 2.0 litre hybrid powertrain.
The Toyota Auris has been around for quite a while – with the last facelift in 2015 – so it’s time for an all-new Auris, which will debut at the Geneva Motor Show and feature lots of changes to the current model. This isn’t a titivated current Auris, but an all-new Auris using the same TNGA Platform underpinning the new Prius and C-HR, with Toyota promising a more dynamic design for its Golf and Focus competitor.
What the new Auris will also get is a new 2.0 litre Hybrid powertrain, once which promises improvement in performance and economy, but it could get more of Toyota’s latest toys.
As well as the new 2.0 litre hybrid (the current Auris uses Toyota’s well-established 1.8 litre hybrid), it could get some of the latest developments Toyota has just announced.
They include a new CVT gearbox which has a ‘launch’ gear to improve responsiveness when setting off, removing that feeling you have to wait 10 minutes for the CVT to start working and catch up with engine revs.
By using a ‘gear’ from start, Toyota has been able to reduce the size of the belt and components and deliver a 20 percent reduction in shift times, improved efficiency and improved economy.
Toyota has also developed a new six-speed manual gearbox which is more compact and more efficient, and a new 2.0 litre direct injection petrol engine with increased torque and thermal efficiency.
The new Toyota Auris will be on Toyota’s stand at Geneva alongside the Aygo facelift and the racing concept of the new Toyota Supra.
