Nigel Mansell, speaking on Chris Evans’ Radio 2 Show, said he would like to be back in Formula 1
First we had Michael Schumacher attempting a comeback in F1. That failed because of fitness problems – or so we are told – but there’s another ex F1 driver who’s up for an F1 return – Nigel Mansell.
Speaking on the Chris Evans show on Radio 2, Mansell was asked about Schumacher’s failed return to to Ferrari. He poured scorn on the ‘bad neck’ excuse put forward by Schumacher. In his opinion is was just that – an excuse. But when asked by Chris if he would have the same problem with the G-Forces in F1 he was adamant – “Not with my Bull neck”. Asked if he was up for a return to F1 he said he could jump in the Ferrari tomorrow.
Is it such a daft idea? We’ve no idea of Nigel’s fitness levels, but if you want a man that focuses on one thing, and one thing only, Nigel’s your man. He can obviously still drive (he made some of the other F1 drivers – current ones at that – look a bit silly with his Top Gear lap time) and it would be a real buzz to see what an old dog can teach the whippersnappers.
And Nigel is back racing this month for the first time in two years in the final round of the Le Mans series. He’s driving in the Silverstone 1000Km on September 13th in a Ginetta-Zytek LMP1, with his son – Greg – and Ginetta boss Lawrence Tomlinson as co-drivers.
Go on, Nigel. Give your eyebrows a brush and grow back your ‘tache. Someone will give you a drive.

Pete says
Luca Badoer ‘jumped in the Ferrari’ and look how well he did. Who the hell is Mansell trying to kid? Even 20 years ago he used to be collapsing after a race, when the likes of Prost and Senna looked like they had been for a trip down the shops.
Leave your bull neck supporting your big ego but don’t bother making a fool of yourself by trying to make a comeback.
