Nissan Qashqai hits 2 million in record-breaking time

The Nissan Qashqai has become the quickest British-built car to hit the 2 million mark, hitting the 2 million milestone in just eight years.

It might still seem a bit odd to think of the Nissan Qashqai as a ‘British’ car. But it is – it’s manufactured in Sunderland – and it’s just entered the record books as the quickest British car to reach 2 million produced, managing the feat in just eight years.

That feat means the Qashqai has rolled off the production line in the UK quicker than the original Mini (which took 10 years to hit the 2 million mark), and one in three cars produced in the UK is now a Nissan.

The two millionth car to roll out at Sunderland was a magnetic red Qashqai n-tec destined for a UK customer, although 85 per cent of all Qashqais built in Sunderland have actually been exported.

Paul Willcox, Nissan’s Europe Charman, said:

The Qashqai is one of 12 new models we have launched in the past 12 months in Europe, which has given Nissan the strongest and most cohesive line-up in our history.
