Peugeot producing a 4×4 never seemed quite right to me. And to be honest it’s not exactly the pick of the crop. In fact, it’s not exactly pick of the crop amongst its cousins (the Citroen C-Crossover and the Mitsubishi Outlander – all the same under the skin).
There are some plus points, however. It has pretty good off-road ability (thanks to the input of Mitsubishi, no doubt), not that many owners ever go off road. It has a pretty decent, supple ride and the 2.2 litre HDI engine is a good unit.
But it’s all rather let down by the look of the thing. It seems a bit oddly-proportioned (far more so than the Citroen and Mistubishi) and the nose looks like a complete afterthought. Inside, although not a bad place to be, the extra two seats in the boot are far too cramped.
But never mind, Peugeot are pressing on with the 4007, and have launched a new edition – The Peugeot 4007 Sport XS. So what does this have to offer that isn’t already available? Well, it only comes with the five-seat option (which is no loss), it gets a set of 18″ alloys, black leather seats and it’s been ‘Sportified’ by adding chrome trim and sports bits (spoilers front and rear). You also get bluetooth thrown in.
Price-wise, the 4007 Sport XS comes in £1,450 above the base model at £24,695, which for the extra kit is not too terrible. But the 4007 is too expensive in the first place, so it’s not really great value.
If you want a car like this, choose the Mitsubishi Outlander. It’s a much better car – and cheaper.
