Porsche 718 T Cayman and Boxster
Porsche has decided to fill the gap between the Porsche 718 Cayman and Boxster and the S versions with a new 718 T model.
You might not have realised it, but there’s a yawning gap between the entry-level Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman models, and the more powerful 718 S models. Thankfully, Porsche has seen the problem and has a fix – the 718 T Cayman and Boxster. The 718 T is the fourth version of the Cayman and Boxster to arrive, sitting above the entry level models but beneath the S and GTS. Effectively, it’s an entry-level 718 with a few options from the 718 S thrown in.
Power comes from the entry-level model too, so you get a four-pot 2.0 litre Porsche with 296bhp and, despite some performance enhancements, performance is identical to the base models too, with 0-62mph taking 5.1sec (or 4.7sec for the PDK).
Goodies from the S include a 20mm lower sports suspension, 20″ wheels, and Sport Chrono – which brings its rev-matching to the party – as well as dynamic mounts for the gearbox which promise to minimise vibration and sharpen response.
There’s a bit of daftness going on too, with Porsche deleting the Sat Nav and media to save weight and imbue the 718 T with a hardcore feel. But you can have the Sat Nav and Media back if you want at no cost (and why wouldn’t you?).
The Porsche 718 T Cayman starts at £51,145 and the Boxster at £53,006, a hefty chunk of £5k up on the regular 718 and under £1k cheaper than the 718 S.
But if fills a yawning gap in the range.
