Porsche are planning a limited edition Porsche 911 Speedster, a 911 GTS and a Porsche Cayman Spyder.
Back in September 2009 we reported that Porsche was planning on launching a Speedster version of the Boxster. Which they did, they just didn’t call it the Speedster, opting instead for Porsche Spyder. So, right story, wrong name. But it looks like the Speedster name will be back front and centre as Porsche appears to be planning a limited run 911 Speedster.
The plan is to produce just 100 Porsche 911 Speedster featuring RWD, the PDK ‘box, a limited slip diff, PCCB & PASM. They’ll come equipped with a set of 19″ alloys and be available in either white or blue. Target price in the US – the spiritual home of the Speedster – is around $200k, so think £200k if you want one in the UK.
Also in the mix from Porsche appears to be a wide-bodied 911 GTS with sports nose, 400+ bhp and available in coupe or cabriolet. One oddity appears to be the plan for a Spyder version of the Cayman, which we tend to view as a tin-top Boxster. So if you chop the top off to make a Cayman Spyder don’t you just end up with a Porsche Boxster? Maybe not.
So where do these gems of information come from? A slightly circuitous route we admit, but the boys at the Teamspeed forum picked the details up from Rennlist where a member reported the details after attending a Porsche sales manager’s meeting.
We’re digging for more detail and we’ll let you know when we get it.
