Porsche Cajun - the baby Porsche Cayenne
VW boss Martin Winterkorn has told Der Spiegel that Porsche will be producing a smaller SUV and that it will be called the Porsche Cajun.
It seems like the car world has been predicting a ‘baby’ Porsche Cayenne ever since the original stepped on to the world stage in 2003. The baby Cayenne has long been dubbed ‘Roxster’, but it appears it will in fact be the Porsche Cajun.
VW boss Martin Winterkorn – who by default is now Porsche’s boss – has been giving Der Spiegel the benefit of his thoughts on all things car, and in particular all things VW. Which lead to the statement that Porsche needed to increase its sales volumes and reduce its average CO2.
Those two aims could both be addressed by introducing a small SUV. The Cayenne was a big boost to Porsche sales and a small SUV – no doubt based on the Q5 platform – would probably be even more dramatic in its effect.
Smaller engines across a significant number of sales in the Porsche Cajun would also have the very helpful side effect of dropping Porsche’s average CO2, which would do wonders for hitting CAFE targets.
