Porsche Taycan EV set to OUTSELL the Porsche 911
The electric Porsche Taycan, which is due to debut in production guise in September, looks set to outsell the iconic Porsche 911.
Is an electric Porsche still a Porsche? Porsche certainly think so, and we’ll find out for sure once the new electric Taycan arrives in September. But how successful will it be?We already know that Porsche had taken 20,000 ‘orders’ for the Taycan back in the spring, but that number has now grown to more than 30,000.
Now, according to Autonews, Porsche is expected to sell around 40,000 Taycans a year, which is pretty close to the Tesla Model S and more than the Porsche 911, which sold around 35,000 last year.
Whether that figure includes the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo EV isn’t clear, but it’s a figure twice the number Porsche envisaged selling when it became clear the Mission E was turning in to the Taycan for production is impressive.
What is also not clear is whether the Taycan is going to steal sales from other Porsche models, because in terms of performance it’s going to be up there with the most powerful versions of the 911 and the Panamera and come in a range of three flavours – Taycan, Taycan 4S and Taycan Turbo – for varying levels of performance, range and price.
And once the Taycan hits Porsche showrooms, an electric Porsche Macan will be next up to challenge the ICE.
