President Obama’s Cadillac grounded on a speed bump in Dublin

President Obama is visiting Ireland and being chauffeured around in the Presidential Cadillac. Which couldn’t cope with Dublin’s speed bumps, and got beached.

Americans take no chances when their leader travels abroad. After all, no other country has a leader so they couldn’t possibly know how to organise things.

So the President of the United States travels the world on Air Force One, his very own Jumbo Jet capable of fending off attacks from any direction (at least if the President is Harrison Ford).

And when the President gets to where he’s going the only people capable of protecting the ‘Most Important Man in the World’ are the American Secret Service. After all, no other country has a leader who needs protecting, so they couldn’t possibly know how to do it.

And the Secret Service job is made so much easier because the President of the United States takes his own Cadillac with him wherever he goes in the world. After all, no other country has a car as good as a Cadillac.

And not just any old Cadillac, either. This is an armour plated Cadillac with glass thicker than the bottom of a Guinness bottle. It has state of the art communications, its own oxygen supply and can be driven with all its tyres shot-out.

So you’d think that the Americans had all the bases covered when it comes to the ‘President Abroad’. But they hadn’t banked on a speed bump in Dublin.

Despite every other car in the convoy easily negotiating the speed bump on the exit of the American Embassy in Dublin, the Presidential Cadillac got beached. Expensively beached, by the sound of it.

‘Nice bit of driving’, cried an Irish voice from the crowd. The Secret Service brought in a mini bus to hide their embarrassment while they hoisted Cadillac One off its perch. Which we assume they eventually did. The cameraman didn’t hang around long enough to find out.

What a good thing the President brought his own Cadillac.
