Range Rover Evoque XL by 2016. Does that mean a new Evoque too?

October 17, 2013 By Cars UK

It seems Land Rover are planning on launching a Range Rover Evoque XL – a LWB Evoque – in 2016. Does that mean a new Evoque too?

We’ve thought, ever since Land Rover launched the Range Rover Evoque, that a stretched version would be on the cards to fit between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. And that now seems a racing certainty.

Autocar are reporting a report by Bernstein research which claims a new, lighter and bigger Evoque is planned for launch in 2016.

The new stretched Evoque will be built on the same aluminium platform as the new smaller Jaguar and get the new efficient and powerful 4-cylinder engines JLR are currently developing.

Thanks to those engines and the new aluminium platform, the stretched Evoque looks set to be more dynamic and more efficient than the current Evoque.

But will Land Rover be building a new platform for the Evoque XL (the current Evoque is built on a modified Freelander platform) with all the advantages aluminium construction brings, without building the standard Evoque on the same platform? It seems unlikely.

Which probably means that the current Evoque has only has two years left before it’s replaced in 2015/16 by a new Evoque. with the new aluminium platform the new range of smaller Jaguars will be getting.

Which should see Evoque sales climb even higher.

Halewood, where the Evoque and LR2/Freelander are built, is setup for steel manufacturing and not aluminium. If the next generation of these models moves to aluminium, then it would need large scale changes and investment at Halewood.

The Evoque XL will likely be built on the new line being cosntructed at Solihull for the small Jaguar saloon and SUV.

Will the new Porsche Macan affect sales of the Evoque? Reports are saying that they could be producing 100,000 a year, and expect it to be its most popular model.
