REDEX System Cleaner review – how’s it going?

REDEX System Cleaner review

REDEX System Cleaner – still going in to our C-Max

We’ve been using Redex Fuel Additive in our 100,000 mile Ford C-Max for a bit over a month, so has Redex made any real difference to the car’s performance?

Last month we started a review of Redex Fuel Additive in our, slightly tired, 2010 Ford C-Max, dutifully popping a single pot of Redex diesel additive in whenever we fill up.

It’s a painless process and is now becoming second nature, with a box in the boot holding spare bottles, and a bin always at hand on the forecourt to dispose of the empty bottle.

It’s hardly an onerous chore, and if it makes a difference to the performance and economy of our little runaround it’s a small price to pay (a couple of quid per fill-up).

Redex claim that adding their cleaner will cut emissions by cleaning the fuel system and will, in the process, improve economy. And it probably cost no more than filling up with expensive ‘Premium’ fuels with, unstated levels, of additives.

We’re going to wait until we’ve finished with the Redex test to work out if the C-Max is any more economical, but so far it does seem to make the car run a little smoother.

After more than 100k of often stop-start trips, the C-Max could be described – especially when cold – as a little ‘lumpy’ at times.

But after just a month or so, two out of the three who’ve been driving the C-Max since we started with Redex have commented that it seems smoother than it did, and that the engine seems quieter. Which, if that’s all a dose of Redex does, probably makes it worthwhile using on its own.

Interestingly, we’ve had a fair few emails on the subject from readers, with many saying they’ve been swearing by Redex for years, with just a few dissenters saying they could see no difference after giving it a go.

So if you’ve used Redex recently instead of stumping up for premium fuels, why not drop us an email and let us know what you think, or drop a comment below if you prefer.

We’ll be rounding up on our Redex experiment before Christmas.

Also had good success with BG 244 and AR6400-D products with Ford diesels.
