Renault City K-ZE electric baby SUV heading for the UK
The Renault City K-ZE, a baby electric SUV in China – is heading for the UK and Europe as a very affordable City SUV. And it could be a Dacia.
When the Renault City K-ZE was revealed, it was as a very compact electric SUV for China, with prices as low as £6,900 and aimed very much a young buyers in city environments. To that end the baby SUV comes with a modest battery pack, just 44bhp, a range of around 150 miles and the ability to get to 37mph in seven seconds, deemed more than enough when speeds of up to 40mph are almost impossible in most congested cities.
But from the start Renault had said that although the City K-ZE as it stands is a car for China, they wanted to make it suitable for other markets – including the UK and Europe – too.
Now Autocar is reporting that Renault’s head of electric vehicles has confirmed the K-ZE will be coming to Europe and, although not confirmed, it could be as a very affordable Dacia EV.
It’s highly unlikely, even continuing to build the K-ZE in China, that Renault could deliver it at the sub-£7k price in China, but it does seem the plan is to deliver it at around £10k. Which, if that proves to be the case, could be a real game-changer for electric city cars.
