Renault Megane R.S. 280 UK Price and Specs announced – it’s almost CHEAP

The new Renault Megane Renault Sport 280 goes on sale in the UK with prices starting at £27,495, and if you’re quick you can get a free Cup Chassis option too.

The Renault Sport Megane 280 arrives to join the current hot hatch frey, and although it’s not exactly a bargain basement car it does stack up remarkably well against the current plethora of hot hatch choices tempting those with a lust for a bit of boy racer.

At a very reasonable £27,495 it’s cheaper than the Hyundai i30 N Performance Pack (although not the bog standard i30 N) by £500, and more than £1500 less than the (substantially) less powerful VW Golf GTI, and you could argue it has the potential to take on even more powerful (and more expensive) hot hatches like the Golf R and Civic Type R too.

Not only that, but if you get your skates on and take your cheque book along to your local dealer this month you can also have a free Cup chassis (normally £1500) for free, which also gives you a limited slip diff, stiffer suspension and red calipers.

Power comes from Renault’s 1.8 litre four-pot (the same engine as the Alpine A110) with 276bhp and 288lb/ft of torque, there’s a tuned exhaust for the right note at the right time, 4CONTROL four-wheel steering, six-speed manual gearbox, a six-speed EDC twin-clutch option, Multi-Sense drive modes and hydraulic bump stops.

R.S. tweaks include Sports seats with Carbon R.S. upholstery, R.S. door sills, and roof lining, Nappa leather steering wheel, Gum Metal Grey front bumper with F1-style blade, rear diffuser, central exhaust and 18″ alloys, with 7″ touchscreen, CLimate, Cruise, keyless, Hill Start and plenty of cost option boxes to tick too.
