Renault Megane RS Trophy-R breaks a Nurburgring record
The Renault Megane RS Trophy-R has claimed a Nurburgring record for the fastest production front-wheel drive car, and it will go on sale as a limited edition.
We’re not entirely sure anyone actually cares that much about Nurburgring records any more, but of you do you’ll be thrilled to know there’s a new Nurburgring record holder – the Renault Megane RS Trophy-R.The Megane managed to get round the Nurburgring in an impressive 7:45.39s, grabbing the record for a front-wheel drive production car from the Honda Civic Type R in the process.
Due to be properly revealed at the Monaco Grand Prix, Renault are delivering the Megane RS Trophy-R as a limited edition model later this year.
It features the same 1.9 litre turbo as the Megane 300 RS 300 Trophy, with 296bhp and 295lb/ft of torque, and loses 130kg to give the performance a real edge.
There’s also improved aerodynamics and a tweaked chassis and get an Akrapovic exhaust, Ohlins Shocks, Brembo Brakes, Sabelt Seats and a set of Bridgestones.
Although Renault are saying they will build a few hundred units of the Megane RS Trophy-R, they’re not being specific (perhaps it’ll be a case of ‘how many orders’), and nor are they giving any prices.
But don’t be surprised if the Megane RS Trophy-R costs £40k or so when Renault do decide to deliver it.
