Saab SOLD to National Electric Vehicle Sweden

The Swedish press are reporting this morning that Saab administrators have agreed a deal to sell Saab to National Electric Vehicle Sweden.

The Saab Saga has been going on so long it’s hard to think of it is a car maker any more. But that may be about to change.

The Swedish press are reporting this morning that a deal has been agreed by the administrators of Saab to sell what’s left to a new Japanese / Chinese consortium – National Electric Vehicle Sweden – for between $210-250 million.

The National Electric Vehicle Sweden is a partnership between Japanese Investment Company Sun Investment and China’s National Modern Energy Holdings and the aim appears to be to use the Saab name to market a new range of electric cars.

Details are scarce, although it seems unlikely National Electric Vehicle Sweden will have acquired the GM technology that has dogged the sale of Saab so far, but rather that it gets the intellectual rights to the Saab name and what’s left of its assets.

It seems likely we’ll get more as the day goes on.
