SEAT el-Born outed in SEAT video
It looks like the production version of SEAT’s el-Born Concept, a SEAT take on the electric VW ID. 3 – has been outed in a SEAT video.
Production of the VW ID. 3 – Volkswagen’s ‘Third Age’ starter – is already underway, in small numbers, with first owners of the ID. 3 getting their cars in the New Year and signalling the end of the beginning of VW’s quest to turn itself in to a maker of Electric Cars for the masses.Of course, there’s a long way to go – and endless ‘ID’ models to come – before VW can be sure their gamble to turn from ‘Clean’ diesels to ‘Clean’ electricity is going to pay off, but, as this is Volkswagen, it’s not just cars with ‘VW’ badges going electric.
Back at the Geneva Motor Show in the spring, the SEAT el-Born Concept was revealed as SEAT took the undeprinnings of the ID. 3 to create their own Spanish take on an electric Hatch.

That makes sense as VW seek to move SEAT in to a more ‘Sporty’ and ‘Premium place in the market, and it looks like a production version of the el-Born is getting close to a reveal.
In a video posted by SEAT Sweden on YouTube (below) what appears to be a production version of the el-Born makes an appearance – which is unlikely to be an ‘accident’ – and although the photo is a grab from the el-Born’s infotainment screen (you can find it at 0:46), it’s clearly that model, albeit toned-down from some of the fripperies of the concept.
What is unlikely to be toned down for production is the el-Born’s powertrain, which consists of a 62kWh battery pack, range of 260 miles or so and 100kW DC charging for grabbing juice in quick sticks.
Don’t be surprised to see the production version of the el-Born to hove in to view officially before long.
