Electric Skoda Citigo-E Design Sketch teases an imminent arrival
The Skoda Citigo-E – an electric Citigo and sister car to the VW e-Up! Electric – is teased ahead of a reveal on 23 May.
All the Volkswagen Group focus at the moment seems to be on delivering a new range of ID EVs to convince us all we really want to drive an electric car and repair VW’s tarnished reputation post dieselgate. So the imminent arrival of a new electric car from Skoda might make you expect to see a Czech take on a VW ID. But you’d be wrong.
In fact, the Skoda Citigo-E – teased in a new sketch from Skoda (above) – appears to be no more than an electrified version of the current, ageing, Citigo and, we expect, the same underpinnings as the VW Up! EV.
We haven’t been very kind about the electric VW e-Up!, although our biggest criticisms – the range and the price – could be addressed in the new Citigo-E. Although, to be fair to VW, they did cut the price of the e-Up! last year, but it’s still too expensive and a has a real world range of just 66 miles.
But although the Citigo-e doesn’t look to move things forward to a new generation – it appears to be just a current Citigo with a blanked-off grille – it does seem Skoda will deliver a range of 186 miles which, even if that’s an old NEDC figure, is still hugely better than the e-Up!
All will be revealed on 23 May when the Citigo-E debuts in Bratislava.
