Saab Spyker deal NOT sorted
GM boss Ed Whiteacre has announced at a GM press conference that there is no deal in place yet with Spyker and that the wind-down of Saab will continue.
Half the news today has been on the Spyker Saab deal. We had speculation by Bloomberg that a deal was done and that seemed likely to be confirmed as GM had a press conference listed for this afternoon. But Spyker came out and said they were still talking to GM, but no deal was imminent.
And now we know. The GM press conference was to announce that GM are going to pay back a big chunk of their bailout money soon, and that Ed Whitacre has been made permanent boss at GM.
On the subject of the Saab deal, Whiteacre says the talks are ongoing with Spyker, but so too is the wind-down of Saab. And that’s all he has to say.
So. The beat goes on.
