The Toyota C-HR Compact SUV – revealed at the Geneva Motor Show – finally gets its interior uncovered ahead of the new urban SUV going on sale.
The Toyota C-HR arrived as a concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year, previewing an extreme take on Toyota’s vision of a a funky little urban SUV. But it didn’t have an interior. But the production version of the C-HR arrived at the Geneva Motor Show a few months ago, sporting slightly less extreme, but still funky, looks and…no interior.
But now, as Toyota move towards pre-sales in the UK and Europe in the Autumn – and first customer cars at the start of 2017 – they’ve decided they ought to show potential buyers what the interior of the C-HR actually offers. A sensible move.
Surprisingly, considering the very un-Toyota funky exterior, Toyota has been rather conservative with the interior, with regular dials on the dashboard, an 8″ infotainment screen top and centre, gear lever on the centre console, nice two-tone leather seats and an altogether conventional feel to the cabin. Oh, but there are lumps of blue running through the dash and in to the doors for a bit of funk, so not entirely conservative.
Alexandre Gommier, Toyota Designer, said:
Our aim as Toyota’s European design centre was to deliver a unique style – modern and sensual at the same time. The uniqueness of the C-HR’s interior design is based on a stable structure with ‘Emotional Surfaces’ and ‘Innovative Details’.
These key features provided us with the opportunity to approach the design with a fresh perspective. As a result, the C-HR showcases the emotional appeal of Toyota’s interiors of the future
The interior of the C-HR does look to be well finished and appealing, but whether it will appeal to the same buyer who’s drawn in by the exterior design, we’re not entirely sure.
