Toyota Fine-Comfort Ride Concept is Toyota’s vision of future luxury Hydrogen car

The Toyota Fine-Comfort Ride Concept is heading for the Tokyo Motor Show previewing Toyota’s vision of a future hydrogen powered luxury car.

Toyota has revealed another concept for the Tokyo Motor Show, this time a concept which imagines a future luxury car with huge amounts of space and powered by hydrogen – the Toyota Fine-Comfort Ride Concept.

The Fine_comfort Ride Concept is a rather oddly shaped car, taking advantage of a an electric powertrain running on hydrogen to stretch the cabin almost from the front to the back of the car.

At 4830mm long, the Concept is about the same length as a Lexus GS, but it’s wide at 1950mm – wider than a Mercedes S-Class – and the wheelbase is an enormous 3450mm, about 300mm more than a LWB S-Class.

An electric motor driving each wheel sees the wheels pushed out to the corners of the car, and it’s a diamond shape, with the car widening to the middle before narrowing towards the back, creating the maximum space possible in row two.

Inside there’s seating for six, with the middle row offering individual seats which can rotate and recline, a third row bench, lots of touch screens and lots of technology.

The hydrogen fuel cell delivers enough capacity to run for 600 miles between refuelling, and as a hydrogen electric car it also means filling up takes no more than a few minutes.

It looks like the Fine-Comfort Concept is about demonstrating the new freedom of design and practicality offered by hydrogen powertrains rather. than previewing a new Toyota model per se.
