Toyota GR Yaris to debut next month in Tokyo
The Toyota GR Yaris – Toyota’s road-going take on the Yaris WRC – will debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in January as Toyota’s second ‘GR’ model.
Toyota have been busy testing the new Hot Hatch Toyota GR Yaris ahead of its debut (pictured above) complete with a ‘GR-4’ moniker plastered on the side and similar Razzle Dazzle camouflage to the Supra when it was busy testing. Now Toyota has confirmed the GR Yaris will get a public debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in January and, say Toyota, it will be “an all-new, rally-inspired sports car”.
That sounds very promising for lovers of a hot hatch, although, at this stage, Toyota are reluctant to tell us exactly what’s sitting under the Yaris GR.
But it’s not unreasonable to think the Yaris GR will come with 4WD, like the WRC car, as it’s sporting that big ‘GR-4’ sign on its flanks, and we can see a butch pair of rear wheel arches as part of an aggressive body kit.
So the Yaris GR looks the part, and it’s four-wheel drive will be a real USP in the segment, but we don’t have any idea what Toyota are sticking under the bonnet, although it seems rather likely it’ll be a little bit more powerful than the Yaris’s 1.5 VVT-i.
It sounds very promising.
