Updated Volvo XC90
The updated Volvo XC90 SUV, including the new mild hybrid XC90 B5 diesel, goes on sale in the UK with prices starting at £52,235.
Volvo revealed the updated XC90 SUV, including a mild hybrid XC90 B5, back in February, and the mildly titivated, and mild hybrid models, are now on sale in the UK.The headline act is the arrival of the ‘B-badged’ mild hybrids – which effectively replace the old D5 diesel – and harvest energy from braking to provide a helping hand for the ICE under acceleration, with Volvo claiming the new system reduces fuel usage and emissions by 15 per cent in the real world. For now it’s just a B5 diesel, but B5 and B6 petrols are on the way.
The T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid XC90 also gets a bit of a makeover, complete with a new battery charging system and bigger battery, enough to see an EV range of 28 miles (probably under 20 in the real world).
So well conceived is the XC90 that Volvo has done very little to change its looks for this updated model, with just a concave grille, new alloys and new paint options, with R-Design models getting gloss black highlights, and there’s also a new Slate leather option for the R-Design (about time).
Unsurprisingly, this is Volvo, the safety suite of electronic gubbins is improved a bit too with the arrival of Oncoming Lane Mitigation already seen on the XC60, and the Cross Traffic Alert can now brake if needed.
The updated XC90 is now a 20-strong line-up, running from the entry-level XC90 Momentum with T5 Petrol at £52,235, heading up to the range-topping XC90 Inscription Pro with T8 Twin Engine plug-in at £71,945, and a choice of Momentum, Momentum Pro, R-Design, R-Design Pro, Inscription and Inscription Pro trim across all engine options, except for Momentum Momentum Pro where you can’t have the T8 plug-in.
The updated Volvo XC90 is now on sale at Volvo’s UK dealers.
