Vauxhall Astra VXR EXTREME heading for Geneva as the quickest Astra yet

A new Vauxhall Astra – the Vauxhall Astra VXR EXTREME – is heading for a debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show in March. It will be the quickest Astra to date.

The VXR range of Vauxhall’s – the sportiest of Vauxhall’s car range – is ten years old this year, so what better way to celebrate than with an even more extreme version of the Astra VXR.

Vauxhall obviously agree as they’ve revealed the Vauxhall Astra VXR EXTREME as the new top of the range Astra VXR and it’s heading for a debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March before going in to limited production.

The new Astra VXR EXTREME is derived from the Opel Astra Cup race car and comes with plenty of race modifications like racing seats, an integrated safety structure, six-point safety belts and lashings of carbon fibre.

The Astra VXR EXTREME will also come with an aggressive bodykit – including a big rear spoiler – and some special alloys and tyres.

What we don’t yet know is whether Vauxhall has decided to endow the VXR EXTREME with more power as well as less weight to give a proper performance boost.

The regular Astra VXR comes with 276bhp and can get to 62mph in 5.9 seconds, but it does seem likely that Vauxhall will give the VXR EXTREME something around 300bhp to make it really stand out from the regular VXR.

We don’t know yet when the Astra VXR EXTREME will go in to production, but when it does it will doubtless be at a price the wrong side of £30,000.
