Volkswagen ID ROOMZZ teased as yet another electric VW
The Volkswagen ID ROOMZZ is heading for the Shanghai Motor Show previewing a new full-size electric SUV heading for production in 2021.
No one can accuse VW of being half-hearted in their mission to move from ‘Clean Diesel’ to ‘Clean Electric’ in the wake of Dieselgate. We’ve seen an avalanche of fluffy-bunny electric car concepts from VW as they gird their loins to deliver production electric cars in volume, whilst keeping their fingers crossed that buyers will actually buy them, and that if they do there will be enough batteries in the world to make them in the first place.
The latest ‘ZZ’ EV concept is the ID ROOMZZ – joining previous concept outings like ID Buzz, the ID Crozz and the ID Vizzion – a full-size ‘Premium’ SUV we assume is aimed at everything from Tesla to the electric SUVs from Germany’s ‘Premium’ trio.
All we really get at the moment on the ID ROOMZZ is the arty image above, although VW do say it will have Level 4 Autonomy, which means the car can do it all but you have to be behind the wheel.
It seems likely, as the ID ROOMZZ sits on the same platform as the recently revealed concept for the Audi Q4 e-tron, that it will come with a similar powertrain. If so, that would mean an 82kWh battery, 300bhp and a range of 280 miles. Which sounds just fine.
We’ll get to see just what the ID ROOMZZ is promising when the Shanghai Motor Show kicks off on 15 April.
