Volkswagen Tiguan gets 236bhp 2.0 BiTDI
The new Volkswagen Tiguan can no be had with a 2.0 litre Bi-Turbo diesel engine with 236bhp and a 2.0 TSI with 177bhp. Both are on sale now.
It’s only six months since the latest 2016 VW Tiguan went on sale in the UK, and Volkswagen are already extending its appeal with two new engine options. The new headline engine option is a 2.0 litre Bi-Turbo diesel which delivers 236bhp – more than the previous most powerful petrol in the Tiguan – lifted from the Passat, which sends its power to all four wheels through a seven-speed DSG gearbox and 4MOTION.
Performance is lively for a small family SUV, with 62mph coming up in 6.5 seconds on its way to 145mph, with official economy of 44.1mpg (think low-ish 30s in the real world) and an SCR to cut NOx emissions (VW, for obvious reasons, is keen you know this).
As well as the new BiTDI the Tiguan is also getting a 177bhp 2.0 litre TSI option with 4MOTION, a choice of manual or auto gearbox.
Both engines can only be had if you opt for the pricey Tiguan SEL or Tiguan R-Line, but as they’re top-end Tiguan trims you do get quite a bit for your money.
The Tiguan SEL comes with 8″ touchscreen, Sat Nav, Adaptive Cruise and 12.3″ digital dash, with R-Line adding 20″ alloys, spoiler and diffuser, R-Line logos on the seats and stainless steel pedals.
The 2.0 litre BiTDI costs from £36,450 for the Tiguan SEL and £38,640 for the Tiguan R-Line, and the 2.0 litre TSI £30,540 for the Tiguan SEL and £32,855 for the Tiguan R-Line.
