The new Volvo V90 – revealed this week – is set to become the best-selling Premium estate in its sector, according to analysts.
Volvo has only just officially revealed the new V90 Estate, but it already looks set to be the best-selling premium estate on the market.Automotive News have been talking to industry analysts, and the consensus is that the new V90 will lead sales even against established rivals like Audi and BMW, as the V90 sets new standards for the sector.
Volvo still hasn’t confirmed what models of the V90 will be made, but with the V90 being a replacement for the V70, it seems certain there won’t just be a regular Estate, but a high-riding V90 Cross Country too, although the ‘not quite one thing or another’ XC70 is not going to be replaced by a similarly butched-up V70 as we already have the new XC90.
Amazingly, the current V70/XC70 range was the second best-selling premium estate range in Europe last year – beating BMW’s 5-Series Touring and just behind Audi’s A6 Avant – and analysts are certain the new V90 will take the crown as the best-selling car.
JATO’s Felipe Munoz said the new V90 will extend its lead over the BMW and beat the Audi, and Ian Fletcher at IHS Automotive also predicts the V90 will take the lead from the Germans.
Of course, all this comes against a backdrop of a market that is favouring SUVs over estates, but Volvo has that covered with the new XC90, and the prediction is that the new V90 – and V90 Cross Country – will rack up annual European sales of some 57,000 units – well ahead of Audi’s A6 Avant.
The new Volvo V90 will go on sale at Volvo’s UK dealers after its debut at Geneva, with first customer cars expected to arrive by the summer.
