The Polestar 1 will get its dynamic debut at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed

The Polestar 1 – the first car from Volvo’s new standalone brand – will get its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, tackling Goodwood’s Hill Climb.

The Polestar 1 is the first car from Volvo’s performance brand, and we’re steadily moving to the point where production cars surface and we get the chance to see what real cars can do in the real world.

There’s an argument that the gestation period for the Polestar 1 from concept to production will see it technologically behind the curve by the time it finally arrives in customer hands, but it will still be a cracking car.

With 592bhp from its combination of boosted 2.0 litre petrol engine and electric motors, the plug-in hybrid Polestar 1 will be quick, but will it be as quick as the Jaguar I-Pace, a car which headlines at less than half the price of Volvo’s £135,000 hybrid?

Still, the Polestar 1 is a great looking car – essentially a Volvo S90 Coupe in looks – and, despite only being available in LHD, it’s already on sale in the UK.

If you’ve place an order, or even if you’re just thinking about it, you will get the chance to see the Polestar 1 in action for the first time at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, where the Polestar 1 – a prototype, anyway – will be tackling the Hill Climb.

The Hill Climb car looks set to come with swirly camouflage as befits a prototype, although Polestar say they will have a couple of cars in production specification on display and without camouflage. We’re sure there’s logic there somewhere.
