Jay Kay’s 2012 BMW 1M
A 2012 BMW 1M owned by Jay Kay is up for sale at Silverstone Auction with a guide price of £42-47k, as much as the new price seven years ago.
There is no doubt that the 2011 BMW 1M is something of a modern classic, and, especially in right-hand drive form, something of a rarity.
Just 450 RHD 1Ms were built, and the combination of a 3.0 litre straight-six with 335bhp and six-speed manual ‘box made for a fun and appealing little BMW.
Back in 2011, Claire took the 1M Coupe up the Goodwood Hillcimb and was suitably impressed, as was rock man, and petrolhead, Jay Kay, who was happy to pay BMW’s £40k (plus extras) to grab one for himself, despite having some far more exotic metal in his garage.
But it seems the good Mr Kay has decided the little BMW is no longer needed and has enlisted Silverstone Auctions to find him a buyer, and they’re estimating it at £42-47k. Which seems a lot, and a decent investment for Jay Kay, but then there are only a small number of RHD 1Ms and the ‘Celeb’ credentials might help a bit.
On a more practical level, Jay Kay’s 1M comes in Alpine White with a black Boston leather interior and the Media Package, has done only 5,500 miles (most of them probably quite quickly), has the original bill of sale and a full service history from Sytner.
You can make a bid for Jay Kay’s BMW 1M at the NEC Classic Car Sale on 9 November.
