The 2016 Mercedes SL is getting a facelift – due to debut at the 2015 Los Angeles Motor Show – but ahead of that we have the first photos of Mercedes’ refreshed SL.
The Mercedes SL was once perhaps the most iconic car Mercedes produced – the halo for the brand – but times have changed and the SL now seems rather passé; a relic of a bygone age.But Mercedes continue to keep faith in the SL – although their demographic must now be entirely of pensionable age – and are about to reveal a facelift for the current SL, teased a few days ago with a single image of the SL’s new nose.
But now, ahead of its debut at the LA Show, we get a full gallery of images, photos that have arrived on the web a little earlier than Mercedes planned.
We don’t yet have details of any changes to the engine line-up – although it’s unlikely to change much from the current petrol-engined range of SL400, SL500, SL 63 AMG and SL 65 AMG – but we can see what Mercedes has done to make the SL more appealing.
The updates for 2016 include the new mesh grill, LED headlights, new bumpers, bits of carbon fibre, new alloys and tweaked tail lights. Inside, Mercedes has resisted the temptation to plonk the COMAND screen on top of the dash – it’s still integrated – and there appear to be some changes to switchgear and materials.
No doubt, with the photos of the 2016 SL now out in the wild, Mercedes will soon deliver the full specs for their facelifted SL.
