Kia has revealed the new Optima in Euro spec ahead of a debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, with new styling, more room and a single engine option.
The new Kia Optima actually arrived at the New York Motor Show in the spring, but this is the reveal of the new Optima in its UK and European guise, all ready to hit Kia’s showrooms after a debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
A bit longer, a bit wider and a bit taller than the outgoing model, the new Optima also gets a longer wheelbase meaning more room for passengers and more room for luggage too.
Kia say the design of the new Optima is evolutionary, and that means a familiar shape with a Tiger-Nose grill, new headlights, new bumpers, defined wheel arches and, according to Kia, it’s both sporty and functional.
The cabin of the new Kia is a more upmarket place – as we’ve come to expect with each new iteration of Kia’s models – with more soft-touch materials, leather, cloth and metallic elements, new dashboard, angled centre console, 8″ touchscreen infotainment, fewer buttons and a choice of single or two-tone finish.
Technology features highly too, with Smart Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, High Beam Assist, Speed Limiter, Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert all available, with both short and long range detection of objects by the AEB.
Under the skin, the new Optima is 50 per cent stiffer thanks to high strength steel and increased use of carbonfibre reinforced plastics, with the only engine option a revised take on the 1.7 litre CRDi engine offering 139bhp and mated to Kia’s new seven-speed dual-clutch auto (a six-speed manual is also on offer). A hybrid Optima will follow later.
The new Kia Optima will be on sale at Kia’s UK showrooms later in 2015.
