2016 Mercedes SL Facelift now OFFICIAL – in the UK spring 2016

The 2016 Mercedes SL facelift has now been officially revealed at the Los Angeles Motor Show, with cosmetic updates and more power for the SL400.

Last week we revealed the first photos of the 2016 Mercedes SL facelift but now, with the tweaked SL debuting in Los Angeles, Mercedes has now made the details of the facelift official.

Cosmetically, the changes are much as we reported last week, with a new diamond grill, front bumper and bonnet, LED lights and extra bits of chrome and carbon fibre.

Inside you’ll find a few tweaks to the switchgear, some new materials and a new COMAND screen (which hasn’t followed Mercedes latest fad for plonking screens atop the dash – this one is still integrated).

Engine choices remain much the same as before in the SL400, SL500, AMG SL 63 and AMG SL 65, but the SL400 gets a bit of a boost with an extra 35bhp – good for the teeniest of performance improvements, with 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds – and the no-AMG SLs get the new 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission. AMG models keep the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed.

There are new options too with stuff like Curve function (which keeps you level on corners) of offer, as is Dynamic Select System for a choice of engine, transmission, suspension and steering settings.

No pricing for the 2016 SL yet (it’s promised by January) but it’s unlikely to increase on the current prices. In fact, it’s rumoured Mercedes are planning to make the SL more ‘affordable’, so we may even see a price drop.
