2017 Suzuki Swift revealed in Japan
The 2017 Suzuki Swift has been revealed in Japan ahead of a European debut in Geneva featuring updated styling and a hybrid drivetrain option.
The Suzuki Swift is a cracking little car, offering a decent amount of fun in a compact and appealing shape and at a price which makes it very affordable even for firts time drivers. And now we have a new Swift, with the 2017 Suzuki Swift revealed in Japan and showing us, pretty much, what the European version of the new Swift will offer when it debuts at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
The Swift’s styling has evolved rather than been radically changes, managing to introduce more curves and more angles in to the look yet still make the new Swift look like a Swift, just a more grown-up Swift.
Inside there’s a new interior with a redesigned dashboard, a multi-function flat-bottomed steering wheel, new Infotainment and new connectivity, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Under the bonnet there is a choice of three engines, with the entry level a 1.2 litre, four cylinder petrol engine delivering 66bhp and 87lb/ft of torque and a choice of either 5-speed manual or CVT gearbox.
The same 1.2 litre petrol can also be had as a mild hybrid, mated to an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) with brake energy regeneration and delivering additional horsepower and torque during acceleration. The mild hybrid, unsurprisingly, comes with a CVT ‘box.
The third option is Suzuki’s 1.0 litre three-cylinder turbo petrol, producing 101bhp and 110lb/ft of torque and mated to a six-speed auto.
The new Suzuki SWift goes on sale in Japan of 4 January, but is not expected to be available in the UK until summer 2017 following a debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
