The new 2018 Peugeot 508 has been revealed with a slick ‘Fastback’ design as Peugeot renews their D-segment saloon and tries to fight off competition from SUVs and Crossovers.
The market for mainstream cars like the Peugeot 508 has been almost beaten in to submission by premium rivals and the rise and rise of of SUVs and Crossover, but Peugeot has a plan – the 2018 Peugeot 508.Peugeot has taken their rather bland 508 and waved some ‘Fastback’ magic – inspired by the Peugeot Instinct Concept we saw at Geneva a year ago – to deliver a car they believe will take the fight to anyone – premium makers included. And it does look good.
Peugeot say the new 508 breaks the mould with a new low coupe design, but one which still has five-door convenience and a rear hatch, but houses it in beautiful lines with a low stance and frameless windows.
Inside, certainly in this reveal guise, you get a very good Peugeot interior with Peugeot’s saucer-sized steering wheel and an i-Cockpit with a 12.2″ digital instrument panel and 10″ touchscreen too, ‘Boost’ and ‘Relax’ ambience settings and lashings of leather.
The same range-topper also comes with a raft of driver safety systems, including a new Night Vision complete with an infrared camera.
You get the usual suspects in terms of engines, with a choice of six petrol and diesel engines but, in a sign of the times, a headline petrol with 222bhp. And, at some point we’d wager, a plug-in hybrid 508 will arrive too.
The 2018 Peugeot 50 will debut in Geneva next month and be on sale at Peugeot’s UK showrooms in the summer.
Does it have a chance of making meaningful sales? It deserves too.
