The Audi A3 1.2 TFSI Cabriolet arrives in the UK
Audi have released the A3 Cabriolet 1.2 TFSI in to the UK market with the smallest engine ever fitted to an Audi. Prices start at £19,985
The Frankfurt Motor Show last year was – as is often the case these days – something of a ‘Green-fest’. We had BMW’s Vision Concept and the first outing for an Audi e-tron (is that really only six months ago?), but we also had the introduction of the smallest engine Audi have ever stuck in a car – the 1.2 TFSI.
It may be the smallest engine, but it’s not the least powerful thanks to the turbo. In fact – in the new Audi A3 Cabriolet 1.2 TFSI – it actually gives better performance (not that the performance is anything to write home about), better economy (25% better) and lower emissions (by 20%) than the outgoing A3 Cabriolet 1.6 MPI. So you end up with a little cabriolet that does 0-60mph in 12.2 seconds, does nearly 50mpg and emits 132g/km.
It wouldn’t be an Audi without a choice of trim levels and options, so you can take your Audi A3 1.2 TFSI in bog standard form, Sport or S Line trim. The standard trim gives you 16″ alloys, AirCon, electric mirrors and windows and an ‘almost’ electric roof (you have to latch it manually but it goes up and down on its own).
Move up to the Sport and the alloys get bigger (17″), you get sports suspension and seats, the roof goes fully auto with more insulation and you get a wind deflector. The S Line adds 18″ alloys, S Line front and rear bumpers, half leather and multi function steering wheel.
For our money we’d take the bog standard car at £19,985. It’ll offer a perfectly good town cruise for the summer. If money is no object then go for the S-Line – it’ll sell better when you’re bored. But whatever you choose you could do far worse for a bit of summer sun.
